Game On!

Students have been anticipating the arrival of Field Day for many weeks now. We enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day, participating in many exciting games. Students completed in Sponge Bob Relay, Volleyball, Potato Sack Races, Baton Relay, and many more games. The entire day of activity led up to the Tug of War competition. Our Tug of War teams did an amazing job preparing for the competition and Room 107 even made it to the championship round. Watch the slideshow below to see Team Pay Day in action!

Our Plants are Growing "BEE"-utifully!

Our Wisconsin Fast Plants are in full bloom. The students are logging the growth in a journal and making weekly comparisons of the plants' growth. In the two pictures below, you can see how healthy our plants are. James is making careful observations and logging the information in his journal, and Vincent is using a hand lens to observe the parts of his flowering plants.

In the picture below, Marissa is pollinating her flowers using a bee stick. For the Wisconsin Fast Plants to produce seeds, they must experience cross-pollination.

Finally, in Room 107 the plants have produced seed pods. In just a few days, we will be taking our plants off of the watering system to dry out the seed pods so that we can harvest the seeds.

Keep watching our blog for an update on our Plant Unit!

Games Galore!

On Wednesday, May 12, students, teachers, and parents all had a blast at the 5th Grade Carnival Day. We had a great time playing all of the creative and interesting student-created games. Students even enjoyed the surprise of bouncing in a Wall-E bouncer and sliding down a giant slide. We ended our exciting day by playing bingo, eating nachos, and taking a chance in an awesome chinese auction. Check out the slideshow below to see the great prizes some of the students won and the fun enjoyed by all!

Flowers are Blooming in Science Class

It's time to pollinate our plants as flowers appeared over the weekend on our Wisconsin Fast Plants. The plants will require cross-pollination in order to produce seeds. The students are using bee sticks to pollinate their plants. Keep posted on the growth of our plants by checking the blog weekly.

Students had an amazing time on their field trip to the Carnegie Science Center. They visited the featured exhibit, Roboworld, the world's largest permanent robotics exhibition! They learned how robots sense, think, and act and they explored dozens of interactive exhibit stations. They even played air hockey and basketball against a robotic opponent. Students enjoyed exploring all of the exciting exhibits at the Science Center and even got a chance to bring home some souvenirs from the gift shop. Check out the video below to see some of the fun we had on our field trip!
